May 2021 at Arts for ACT Gallery
The Arts for ACT Gallery will showcase the original artwork of Amanda Zirzow during her first solo exhibition themed “A Starry Night in May.” The opening reception will be May 7th from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Arts for ACT Gallery and Amanda’s artwork will be on display during the entire month of May.
Amanda Zirzow is a prolific, self-taught artist and an Arts for ACT Gallery Member Artist and volunteer. Her bold, colorful, expressionist style of artwork is inspired by encounters from wildlife and her scuba diving adventures. Combined with her unique style, she washes her subjects with texture and colors only found in her imagination. Her high-contrast style with bright colors and bold outlines draws the viewer in and sparks that wow factor. Additionally, much of Amanda’s art is framed with hand-built wood frames constructed from discarded crab and lobster traps that add a unique, one-of-a-kind look and texture that are as original and unique as the art it encloses.
Amanda captivates her audience with her bright imagery and bold details. Born in Falls Church, Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C., Amanda was influenced by exploring the Smithsonian museums, the National Zoo, and the outdoors. As a primarily self-taught artist, she paints with a unique interpretation of nature in her own colorful style and composition.
She received the highest honors at her first art exhibition in 2005 at George C. Marshall High School. Earning top scores in Art and Biology, she graduated as valedictorian of her class with an International Baccalaureate degree. Upon graduation, she attended Virginia Tech, George Mason University, and Georgetown University.
